Silver Lining Therapy

Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy

Psychosexual Issues

Psychosexual Therapy is helpful for many issues relating to sex including both psychological and physical dysfunction. My role in therapy is to support you by looking at many different areas in your life, including your past and present. By gathering information in the first few sessions it will help me to gain an understanding of you as a person and how you have got to this point.  Examples of issues that you might want to come to therapy for are things like negative sexual experiences, being unable to have sex, sexuality/gender issues and sexual trauma. There might be other things that you are having problems with, for example sexual function after cancer treatment and age related sexual function issues. Addiction to porn and sex can also have an impact on your life and ability to have relationships or have sex. I specialise in supporting people with many issues relating to sex and use a model which takes into account biological, psychological and social aspects of your life. Together we will look at experiences or events that may have caused these issues and I will support you with gaining a better understanding of why you are at this point, and how you can move forward. The way I work is to go at your pace and guide you so that you feel safe.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is one of my specialties. I understand that each couple is unique, and that’s why I take an individualised approach to each relationship. My approach to therapy is centred on building strong, healthy relationships. Through our sessions, we’ll work together in a safe, trusting environment and I will support you to develop new strategies for communication and intimacy.

About Me

My name is Sonia and I am a Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist. I like to work using Integrative Therapy, I feel this helps achieve results because every client is different. I especially like to use Compassion Focused Therapy and Gestalt but also use other models into my work. I also enjoy working with clients creatively, this may involve using psycho-education, mindfulness, journaling and suggesting books that might be helpful to read etc. I have worked within the NHS doing Psychosexual Therapy with individuals and couples. I also have over 30 years of experience working within Health and Social Care. I worked with both adults and children with complex trauma, supporting with issues such as sexual abuse, domestic abuse and mental health issues. I also worked within Adult Substance Misuse services for many years which also involved working with Addiction and Trauma.
